Why World Vision is in Rwanda

Rwanda has experienced large amounts of Congolese Refugees settling into their country. This influx of people, along with inflation, has created challenges. They also suffered from a building collapse that took the lives of 11 people.

As refugees flood in due to political tensions in their country, many children have been left homeless, with no access to basic care and attention. Inflation has affected food prices, fuel prices, and other services. After heavy rains, a maize drying shelter collapsed due to over-capacity usage. This unfortunately took the lives of parents to several now orphans.

In response, World Vision Rwanda staff is partnering with other organizations to provide aid in the form of water and hygiene resources for over 2,000 asylum-seekers. To combat the effects of inflation, the World Vision staff adjusted budgets to strategically accommodate new prices and continue necessary programming throughout the country. We are also providing financial empowerment through sustainable income-related classes for 69,000 households. We celebrate the 165,000 children who participated in the Unlock Literacy program, bringing educational resources to vulnerable communities. Over 72,000 children received life-impacting support from generous sponsors.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
