Around the world, children find joy in many different ways. For some it’s activities, and for others it’s family and friends. We asked kids in areas where World Vision works what they thought joy was, and here’s how they answered.

Why World Vision is in El Salvador
El Salvador has experienced extreme weather, food insecurity challenges, lack of clean water access, and educational setbacks this past year.
The extremes of heavy flooding and prolonged droughts challenged agricultural production. Half of the farmers who produce maize and beans lost 50% of their production due to extreme weather. This loss drove up prices and increased food insecurity for over 900,000 people. In addition, over 100,000 Salvadorans in rural areas use unsafe drinking water because they cannot afford bottled water or cannot access clean water easily. The success rate for children’s language and math studies is 50%, as many students have experienced setbacks after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education.
In response, World Vision is addressing food insecurity in the most vulnerable communities, reaching almost 5,000 people with access to food through the Productive Families program. Over 10,000 people gained access to clean water, and thousands more were impacted by other various water and sanitation initiatives. Through educational and life skills programs, we are supporting over 138,000 children, strengthening their abilities to manage emotions, relationships, and communication.

One program raising promise among vulnerable youth in Central America is Youth Ready. Through this approach, we help young people discover their potential, develop specific career and life skills, establish support networks, build character and confidence, and plan for their future in their communities. This is work is made possible largely through child sponsorship.
