Small acts of greatness

Three DJs at K-LOVE, the nation’s largest Christian radio network, are moms who not only love their own kids, but are passionate about loving other children, too.

For Amanda, Amy, and Kelli, helping kids means helping moms -- and serving Jesus.

A mother’s doubt

As a single parent, Amanda Carroll understands the anxiety of providing for her children. Her first baby was diagnosed with “failure to thrive.” Then, two kids later, she got divorced.

“I know what it’s like to have fear and worry and doubt about whether I would be able to care for my children the way I want to,” she says.

“But my fears never came true. I now feel it is my duty to stand up for another mother. For her, it’s real.”

A mother’s love

Seeing other mothers unable to provide essentials for their children moved Amy Bauman during a trip to Africa.

“It made me cry every day,” she says. “Those moms love their kids just as much as I love mine.”

Amy came home deeply struck by “how blessed we are.”

“It’s heart-breaking, knowing how much we have and how much we keep to ourselves,” she says. “The money I have and you have is a gift from God.”

Jesus’ model

Kelli Caldwell is passionate about sharing the gospel, not just with words, but with action.

“Jesus modeled it for us,” she says. “He didn’t walk on this earth and walk into a town and point out all the things they were doing wrong. He walked into a city and saw the needs and met the needs. He healed people, fed people, let children sit in his lap.”

Supporting World Vision by sponsoring a child is an easy way to follow Jesus’s example. “You’re living out the gospel in what you do -- taking care of the least of these,” says Kelli.

Small acts of greatness

“If you want to serve Jesus, this is how you do it,” Amanda says. “We think we have to do something great with our lives, but the Bible says [that] if you want to be great, then serve people. When we all do our small things, there is greatness.”

Amanda, Amy, and Kelli urge their listeners: “Pray about what you can do. Talk to God about it.”
