Day 5: Share a verse

Day 5: Share a verse | World Vision Blog

As we enter the Christmas season, let’s take a moment to remember where all of our traditions began, and to share the joy of that story with the people around us.

Today’s challenge: Share Matthew 19:14 with a friend and on your personal social media – post it to your Facebook wall, Tweet it, etc.

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” –Matthew 19:14

My favorite Bible verse

During the rush of the holidays, it’s important to take a moment to step back and remember why we do all of this. Our personal and family traditions – Christmas trees, carols, strings of lights outside, gifts and ornaments – are all wonderful and become more meaningful with each year, helping us to remember good times with friends and family. But what about before that?

How often during December as we lead up to Christmas do you think about that little child born more than 2,000 years ago? He is the reason we celebrate, the ultimate source of the entire holiday and every Christmas tradition we have.

I’ve always been moved by stories and films when kids come downstairs on Christmas morning to the tree and lights and presents, and that open-eyed wonder that makes Christmas morning so special for them. But that response isn’t only about remembering my own childhood. It reflects the Gospel: “Let the little children come.”

The way little children come to Christmas morning is the way that Jesus wants all of us to come to Him. That’s what I love so much about this verse and the way that it reflects that deeper meaning of Christmas.

Matthew 19:14 is one of my favorite verses. What’s yours?
