Why World Vision is in Lebanon

Last year, Lebanon faced economic crisis, political tensions and instability, continued repercussions from COVID-19, and widespread hunger. The existing and multiplying needs of a massive refugee population added to what’s been a trying year for this nation.

Lebanon was significantly impacted by the global hunger crisis last year, requiring urgent humanitarian assistance to support livelihoods and prevent acute malnutrition. Economic collapse due to extreme inflation exacerbated the crisis. Cholera, spreading north of the country, demanded combat. The Lebanese parliament has been unable to elect a president, leaving a vacancy in the government that already has limited authority. Instability spread to education as well, with teachers on strike since mid-December. With schools closed, children are at risk of dropping out.

World Vision responded directly to the refugee crisis by supporting the livelihoods of refugees through cash-for-work assistance and other programs. We’ve also worked to improve access to quality education with retention support and financial assistance. In total, over 845,000 people, including nearly 450,000 children, were served through programs in child protection, education, and water, sanitation, and hygiene.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
