Why World Vision is in Ethiopia

Ethiopia experienced a challenging year, with increased conflict and violence, natural disasters, food insecurity, and limited access to education. Together these have created challenges for millions of Ethiopians in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.

The extreme weather conditions of flooding and drought negatively affected agriculture and also prevented more than 2.9 million children from accessing education. The conflict in Tigray also adds a challenge for children to safely access schools. Increasing food shortages are contributing to widespread malnutrition, and millions of people need food-related assistance.

In response, World Vision reached conflict-affected children with psychosocial support and treated more than 55,000 children and mothers for malnutrition. Over 44,000 children’s educational experiences were boosted thanks to latrine construction, accelerated learning programs, and a back-to-school campaign to aid teachers. More than 215,000 community members received healthcare support, and 48,500 individuals received water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure and resources. Overall, we are grateful to have reached more than 1.1 million people with the support of donors and partners.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
