Today’s challenge: Put someone's needs ahead of yours.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” —1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
The gift of a wedding
In September of 2012, Kate and Austin registered for their wedding with World Vision’s Gift Catalog.
“We realized very quickly how abundantly the Lord has blessed us,” Kate says, “and has provided even more to us than what we need. Rather than receiving more ‘stuff,’ we decided to let Him redirect our gifts elsewhere around the world, using World Vision as a resource to do that. We were excited to see what God would do through our wedding!”
Kate had first been led to become a World Vision sponsor through a presentation made at a Casting Crowns concert the previous April. She submitted the form that very night!
When researching where to register their wedding, World Vision became an obvious place for them to start because Kate was already a sponsor. As the process continued, they liked World Vision even more because “the community would receive animals and supplies to support growth toward being a self-sustaining community.”
But what confirmed their decision? “We found the World Vision site to be simple and easy to set up, which only encouraged us more,” Kate says.
Through our fundraising page, you can set up your own personal website to honor a special event or loved one.
“It was fun to see notes in our cards with what people chose to donate on the website!” Kate says. “A couple people told us verbally their choices when seeing us in person, and others let us know within a card.”
One card included the note: “We donated to World Vision in your honor! You are blessing a family with 2 chickens!”
Another card said, “What a great idea! A gift to World Vision is twice the gift!”
Soon after the wedding, one of Kate and Austin’s family members created their own World Vision registry instead of Christmas gifts from friends and family.
“Our family and friends were very supportive and were excited to bless others! We were very thankful and happy for everyone’s generosity to us, as well as to World Vision.”
Now as Kate and Austin begin their life together, giving is still on their hearts. “We continue to sponsor Isaac in Uganda, and will likely consider World Vision gifts and donations in the future.”
